Sandy Bivens B.I.R.D. Education Center

Renovation and Dedication

With many thanks to Susan O’Neill, the Milbrey Warner Waller Library on the Warner Park Nature Center Campus has been renovated and now includes the Sandy Bivens B.I.R.D. Education Center, in honor of the wonderful founder of our B.I.R.D. Program. The renovation includes a new classroom with wifi, bird observation area, interpretive exhibits and headquarters for BIRD program staff and volunteers.

Susan O’Neill, long-time volunteer and friend of the nature center, shared these sentiments about the building during last month’s virtual dedication:

“It is spectacular - from the design, to the handmade furniture, to the tiles beautifully made by volunteers... The room for studying birds with its huge glass windows is very inviting, and perfect for the students to observe the variety of birds that come to feed.

I cannot think of a better, more worthy person for this to be dedicated to than our encyclopedically knowledgeable, quietly gentle, and devoted bird appreciator, Sandy Bivens.”

Big thanks to our friends and partners: Ben and Tara Armistead, Brenda Stein, FOWP Nature Center & BIRD Committees, Friends of Warner Parks, Justin Franks/Encore Construction, Metro ITS, Metro Parks Maintenance Division, Metro Parks Visual Arts Division, Susan O’Neill, and Warner Park Nature Center Staff & Volunteers.

Celebrate all things B.I.R.D. with us by contributing to the Hummingbird Celebration Day on Saturday, August 29.
